1. What motivated you to take part in IAA MOBILITY 2025? And what are your expectations for the event?
Mathias Geisen: As the inventor of the automobile, there’s no way we’d miss IAA MOBILITY. That was never even a question for us. Personally, I’m looking forward to exciting conversations, fresh ideas, and a bit of anticipation—this will be my first IAA as Head of Sales. I’m genuinely excited about it.
2. What mobility concept is currently inspiring you the most, and why?
Mathias Geisen: Without a doubt: electric mobility. We recently unveiled the new CLA—with a range of up to 492 miles and incredibly fast charging capabilities. You can add enough power for up to 202 miles in just ten minutes. That kind of progress shows how quickly the technology is advancing—and just how much potential it holds. For me, it’s proof that the future is already on the road today.
3. What innovations in your field do you believe will most transform urban mobility over the next five years?
Mathias Geisen: Autonomous driving is going to completely reshape mobility in the coming years. With the new CLA, for example, we’re introducing an advanced Level 2++ system in China that allows fully assisted driving from point A to B. The car does the driving—but the driver still needs to stay alert. Still, it’s a huge convenience for our customers and a real game changer. And that’s just the beginning. The way we move through cities will change drastically—and Mercedes-Benz will be a key driver of that transformation.
4. How are you promoting the integration of different mobility modes to create a seamless and efficient transportation system?
Mathias Geisen: By using and connecting anonymized data from our vehicles. For example, our cars can warn others about black ice or accidents—often before the danger is even visible. The information is shared in less than a second, helping all road users respond more quickly. So, the car becomes more than just a means of transport—it turns into a smart assistant for the entire transportation ecosystem.
5. What role do you see for public-private partnerships in advancing innovative mobility solutions?
Mathias Geisen: Partnerships are essential for making new concepts a reality. A great example is our collaboration with the transportation ministries of the Netherlands and Sweden. Here, we use data gathered anonymously from various vehicle sensors to detect road conditions. We combine that with information from external sources like weather stations and share the results with our public partners. That helps make traffic safer and more efficient. These types of public-private partnerships are crucial for driving innovation and shaping the future of mobility.
6. Where do you see the greatest potential in mobility—and where is the biggest need to catch up?
Mathias Geisen: We need to work together to ensure widespread access to EV charging infrastructure. That’s why we’re actively expanding the fast-charging network—not only through our own Mercedes-Benz Charging Network, but also through our partnerships in joint ventures like IONITY, IONNA, and IONCHI. Our goal is to make charging as easy and convenient as possible. With our MB.CHARGE Public digital charging service, which is fully integrated into our vehicles, every step of the charging process can be controlled through the familiar in-car interface. At participating stations, the vehicle communicates directly with the charger. By connecting our vehicle software, digital charging service, and fast-charging parks, we’re creating a truly unique customer experience. One highlight: the vehicle can automatically reserve a charging spot.
7. IAA MOBILITY is the leading global platform for mobility, bringing together innovators from across the entire mobility spectrum. Who are you hoping to connect with in September—and why?
Mathias Geisen: I want to connect with people who are curious, who are looking for something special, and who have a passion for innovation. Our brand has been pioneering for nearly 140 years—and we want to keep that spirit alive. We’re here to show people what Mercedes-Benz stands for, now and in the future.
8. Are there any new innovations or products you’re planning to showcase at IAA MOBILITY 2025?
Mathias Geisen: I can already say this: we’ll be debuting several new models. And yes, the new CLA family will be there too. But that’s all I’ll reveal for now. Stay tuned!
